Interview with Eckhard Beger : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Eckhard Beger : The main objective of the project was to create a chest of drawers Shift with the unusual shape of a rhombohedron. Shift is an aesthetic object before being a chest of drawers. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Eckhard Beger : The main focus was to combine the seemingly unstable shape of the rhombohedron with the black ebony marquetry bands which like belts imply stability. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Eckhard Beger : The project duration was 6 months starting in Mai 2015 .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Eckhard Beger : The design was made following my own inspiration .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Eckhard Beger : I wanted to design a chest of drawers with a geometry that is out of the ordinary but which at the same time has a functional side. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Eckhard Beger : The target customer is someone looking for a piece of residential furniture which is at the same time an aesthetic object with a high-end finish and a functional piece of furniture. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Eckhard Beger : The name Shift, reflects the geometry of the chest of drawers. .Frank Scott: What is the role of technology in this particular design?. Eckhard Beger : A special manufacturing process is required to combine the ebony bands with the flamed maple veneer. .
