Interview with Ian Hughes : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Ian Hughes : Reinvent the shuttlecock .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Ian Hughes : Bringing something new to the sport of Badminton .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Ian Hughes : This design took 3 months .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Ian Hughes : The adjustability of the shuttle really sets it apart from anything else on the market .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Ian Hughes : AS1 equals Adjustable Shuttlecock 1. The number one signifying this as being the first ever adjustable shuttlecock .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Ian Hughes : I did a large amount of research before diving into sketch and model ideation. For this project we were assigned to do 100 sketch models. Focusing on the behavior of the shuttle and the type of mechanism that I wanted to use to adjust it. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Ian Hughes : My favorite part of this design is the rippled nose piece, because it fulfills two purposes seamlessly. Adding aerodynamics and grip. .
