Carter Zufelt : I hope to further the technology and produce other designs with recycling in mind. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Carter Zufelt : This design took about a year to develop. I went through everything from research and sketching to prototyping and final production. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Carter Zufelt : I found the transformation from a weak, flimsy plastic bag to a structural, sturdy furniture piece to be astounding. This was based off of my interest in recycling and the environment. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Carter Zufelt : I intend to produce the work myself, but I am not opposed to sell/lease the production rights to another company. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Carter Zufelt : Environmentally friendly consumer. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Carter Zufelt : Rarely, if ever, do designers allow the recycled material to be on display. Typically it is colored and uniform, so the user can't connect with what the item was before. Mine, of course, is the opposite. I want to showcase the chaotic beauty that is recycling. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Carter Zufelt : Müll means trash in German. Germany, Austria and Switzerland lead the world in recycling. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Carter Zufelt : The plastic trash speaks for itself. It is allowed to be chaotically beautiful. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Carter Zufelt : I worked with my professor, David Morgan. He was my mentor while designing the products. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Carter Zufelt : The experimentation phase was very challenging. There were many, many failures. It took quite some time to develop a process I was satisfied with. .
